Dublin has to offer lots of free attractions to cheap visitors. Some of the places are free to senior citizens, students or youngsters, but the list below shows all attractions that are freely available to the whole public. The Museum of Natural History
The building itself was built in 1856 and is located on Kildare Street. Its a must for all visitors to Dublin, both young and old, and yes admission is free. The Museum of Natural History showcases a huge range of zoological collections that can be viewed on three levels. From butterflys to an elephant skeleton you name it, your eyes will be wide with delight at the colourful 10,000 exhibits on show here. You could spend hours inside reading all the information about various species dating back to 1856, some of which are extent today.
The opening hours for The Museum of Natural History are as follows: From Tuesday to Saturday: 10am to 5pm and on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm. Its closed on Mondays and Bank Holidays, Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Dublin Castle
Dublin Castle is situated in the very heart of Dublins historic city centre quarter just a 5 minute walk from Saint Stephens Green. This is a splendid building dating back to 930 and steeped in Irish history. It was originally home to the Danish Vikings, then in 1204 it became home to Kind John of England. It followed many years later as a seat of Government and played its part in the 1916 Rising. Today it plays host to presidential and state functions as well as admiring tourists from all over the world.
You can also stroll around the grounds or relax in the courtyard. However there is a fee to go inside the castle.

Adults: 4.50 Euro
Senior citizens and students (with I.D.): 3.50 Euro
Children (under 12 years): 2.00 Euro
For groups attending Dublin Castle you can avail of group booking prices, minimum group number is 20, and the leader is free. Dublin Castles Opening Times are from Monday to Friday from 10am – 4.45pm, Sundays and Public Holidays from 2pm – 4.45pm, and closed on the following days: Good Friday, 25th-26th December, 1st January.
The Irish Museum of Modern Art
Established in 1990 The Irish Museum of Modern Art, better known as The IMMA is a very well established art museum showcasing the very best in modern and contemporary art. The Museum is located in The Royal Hospital in Kilmainham just west of Dublin city centre and close to Heuston Train Station. This 17th century building will not disappoint you with its magnificent structure and manicured gardens and courtyards offering top class facilities. Why not feast your eyes on the colourful and latest exhibitions on offer.
Opening hours are as follows: From Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5.30pm, excluding Wednesday, Wednesday 10.30am to 5.30pm, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 12pm to 5.30pm, closed on Mondays, Good Friday and 24th and 25th December.
The National Library of Ireland
The National Library of Ireland was established in 1890 and is located on Kildare Street in the city centre. This library has a huge collection of Irish books and Irish related articles and manuscripts ranging from books to maps, manuscripts to newspapers, photographs to music and much more. You can gain access to all newspaper articles ever published and if you wish you can also gain access to the genealogy section and trace your ancestors. The building is also an attraction in itself.
